J.F. Murphy's Bar Athenry

Myself and my husband had visited JFMurphys a number of times since it opened in March 2024. We enjoyed many drinks and really enjoyable meals there. We took a leap of faith in Lisa, Seamie and the team and decided to be the first couple to hold their entire wedding there.

We had just over 90 guests.

We were lucky enough to get Nicola McGuire to solemnise our wedding. We had online meetings and then met in person at the venue. Being in her company is a pleasure. Nicola has a warmth and a charm that is so uplifting. She has a beautiful way of capturing the hearts and attention of those around her. She made planning our day so easy and enjoyable. Everything thought of, everything meaningful.

Lisa, the proprietor, has a fantastic work ethic. She is motivated and hard working. She has a skill and a vision that is rare. Planning and communicating with her was very easy. She takes everything in her stride.

From the minute you enter the door of Murphys, you are warmly welcomed into a venue that is unique, traditional and full of surprises. The decor is eye catching and conversation making. Attention to detail is top class.

For our ceremony, the newly renovated barn was breath taking. Many described it as being like something from a movie. It was more than we could ever have imagined or dreamed of.

Emma McVeigh was our ceremony singer and she was faultless. A beautiful voice that had everyone listening carefully to each perfect note.

We greeted our guests as they left the Barn to enjoy some music, drinks and sandwiches in the main bar. On their way in, they were provided with a reception /welcome drink.

The turnover of the space from ceremony setting to banquet dining room was extremely fast and impressive. Again, done to perfection.

The menus were designed to match the template of our wedding invitations- this is just one small example of how Lisa doesn't miss a trick.

The staff ooze friendliness , warmth and professionalism. They served food and drink with high standards and efficiency. They were hard working but equally a pleasure to share our day with. They gave our guests the best care and attention possible.

Radek the chef is a magician. Having eaten there a few times, we knew the food was top class. We opted for a 3 course menu. Its a big ask to serve 90+ hot, fresh and tasty meals. A challenge that he overcame with ease and grace. The whole team in the kitchen were impeccable. The speed of service, portion sizes, food quality and flavour were talked about and complimented by everyone.

The Cosmonauts kept the dancefloor filled until the DJ took over.

The entire day was perfect from start to finish.

If we had the opportunity to plan our wedding all over again we wouldnt change a thing. I would recommend JFMurphys without hesitation to any couple who are looking for a beautiful , intimate and special venue that offers a unique experience that cant be matched in a hotel or larger establishment
