“Seeing both our families all together enjoying each others company whilst the sun was shining high was a lovely feeling!”
The couple: Fergal Dempsey and Jodie Ashcroft
Length of engagement: 20 months | Wedding date: July 12th 2013
Wedding venue: Marlfield House
Photographer: Eden Photography
We met… in a bar in Kildare.
Our proposal… It was on my birthday.
We chose our photographer because… I met with Tanya (Eden Photography) and got on very well with her and was really impressed with her work.
My hair and make up… My hair was done by the lovely Carol Christie and my make-up was done by Making Faces, both based in Gorey.
My dress… My dress was by a designer called Angela Pitcher Dowdell who designs for Blue Bridalwear. The dress is ‘The Bardot’ and I had the lace overlay and belts made for the occasion. The lace came off in the evening and the belt changed!
His suit… Fergal’s suit was bought from Moss Suit Shop.
Our ceremony… It was in St Peter’s and St Paul’s Kilanerin church in Wexford. The pew ends were created by my auntie using organza and Gypsophila.
We chose our venue because… Being from England I didn’t really know where to start with venues in Ireland. Marlfield House was the first place Fergal had taken me to see and I fell in love with it straight away. It is old world glamour.
Our wedding decor… We went with very light peach, light green and creams as a colour palette.
Our wedding cake… Our lovely cake was made by Kathryn Rankin a very close family friend in the UK, and yes it came all the way from the UK!
My favourite part of the wedding day… Seeing both our families all together enjoying each others company whilst the sun was shining high!
What our bridal party wore… The groomsmen hired suits from Moss, we bought the page boys suit and the flower girl’s dress from Next and the bridesmaids wore gorgeous Dessy dresses.
Our menu… We had scallops to start, beetroot and goats cheese salad for the intermediate, a choice of Monk fish or fillet of beef for the main and crème brûlée (my favourite) for dessert.
Our honeymoon… We went to beautiful Tuscany!
My piece of advice for other brides… Don’t stress. It is meant to be the best day of your life!
