Constipation remedies

Postby mrsdg2010 » Mon Jul 29, 2013 5:41 pm

Any tips on how to control constipation during pregnancy? Have tried prune juice and orange juice but to no avail. Have tried more fibre in diet too but hasn't really made any improvement - would love to hear tips from other people on what worked for them..... :wv

Prune juice worked for me but a friend was advised to take Fybogel by a sonographer when she went for a scan. They are disgusting but worked for her. Have you tried kiwi's?

The best tip I was given in the maternity was linseed or flaxseed. Takes a few days to kick in but then it works every day. It's been a life saver to be honest.
I got some lovely crunchie cranberry linseed in aldi and sprinkle two tablespoons on my porridge or weetabix every morning.

Chewing gum!! I chew it for heartburn but it can have a laxative effect too and I've never had any problems with constipation on either pregnancies prob from chewing loads of it to fight heartburn.

Honestly I find its combining diet chances that works, so prune juice or orange juice, branflakes, kiwis AND tonnes of water..2ltrs plus. Even with all of these on my last pregnancy I still had to take fibogel but my doc recommends not taking them unless you really have to. If you do have to take the fybogel be sure to still take plenty of water as the fybogel can cause cramps and I found lots of water in the day with teh fybogel can keep them at bay.
