After meeting in college, it wasn’t long before Barry swept Kaye of her feet with some very sweet Footloose moves! They both describe walking down the aisle beaming at friends and family and walking back again as husband and wife as some of their favourite parts of the day! And we bet watching Kaye glide up the aisle in her chiffon strapless dress, with custom-made lace overlay by Anne Gregory Bridal was something her guests will cherish for ever more also!
We met… In CIT Cork in September 2000. Our first words were in class. The lecturer asked me and Barry a question. Turned out Barry was wrong, and the lecturer asked him to apologise to me for doubting my answer, so technically they were our first words. We got to know each other over the first couple of years in college and got together in third year and we haven’t looked back since.
My first impressions of Barry… I thought Barry was the quite one in class, but he had a twinkle in his eye. As I got to know him, I found I could talk to him about anything, from philosophy to hurling! He was so easy going and had a great sense of humour. He was great fun on nights out too and he fast became my dance partner for some Footloose re-enactments in various establishments in Cork!
Barry’s first impressions of Kaye…I liked the look of her (I could tell you it was her personality at the beginning but that would be a lie!). When I got to know her better, I found she had a great personality, and we shared a similar sense of humour and got along really well.
Our proposal… It was in March 2009 in Munich. While on the Neuschwanstein Castle Tour, we were hiking to the viewing bridge which looked across at the castle and Barry went off the beaten track to take a break. He surprised me with a jewellery box from his pocket, and asked me to marry him! I literally jumped up and down with excitement and said yes of course!
Our wedding theme/colours… It was an informal country house/ garden wedding. Our flowers were white and pink hydrangeas and dusty pink roses. The groomsmen wore dark grey suits and light pink ties and the bridesmaids wore dark pink dresses mixed with dusty pink rose accessories.
Our ceremony… It was in Holycross Abbey, Tipperary. Holycross has a really old-world feeling to it, and a lovely atmosphere. Our musician played flute and also sang with guitar. The service was celebrated by my local priest and my father’s older brother, who also married my parents, which was a really nice touch.
My dress… I tried on many dresses but knew that I wanted something with an unusual neckline, flowing, soft material, lace and buttons. So, with all of that in mind, I bought a simple chiffon strapless dress, and got the lace overlay with wide scoop neck and buttons down the back custom made. I loved it, and because it was custom made it turned out exactly as I had wanted!
My favourite part of the wedding day… It’s hard to choose. Walking down the aisle beaming at friends and family and walking back again as husband and wife, mingling with guests, grabbing a few quiet minutes every so often with Barry to just realise what a great time we were having were moments that we will always cherish!
My advice for other brides… Don’t sweat the small stuff! Whatever goes wrong, it’s not going to matter in the grand scheme of things, and you’ll have a great day no matter what!
