A Red and Orange Autumnal Wedding With A Few Surprises

Articles, Real Weddings

Say hi to Sarah Jane and Paul! They got married at Roganstown Hotel, in a gorgeous Autumnal wedding, full of red and orange details to complement the theme. We love that they had some surprise entertainment (including something that even Paul didn’t know about).

Sarah Jane and Paul met at a mutual friend’s birthday dinner in 2011.

The original plan Paul had was to propose in Clare where they have a family mobile home and visit quite a lot. However when they got there, Sarah Jane got a severe allergic reaction to something (still unknown) and they had to go home, not engaged. The ring sat in the car for 6 months until one day, they were sent a very kind gift of a charcuterie board from Paul’s boss. So they sat and had a romantic night in with cheese and wine and the ring finally made an appearance!

They describe their wedding as “better than we had ever imagined”. There was no theme, except that Paul’s classic cars had to be involved. Everything else just fell into place.

“We had been travelling from Ashbourne to Lusk one day and drove by Roganstown in November when all the autumn leaves were still around. We thought it would be a lovely setting for a wedding so arranged to view the hotel the following week. Once we viewed it, we knew that it was exactly what we wanted, it had a lovely warm and classic feel to it. After that we based all our colours on fitting in with an autumnal wedding. I wanted lots of warm/red/orange flowers.”

Sarah Jane’s wedding dress was a vintage style wedding dress from Wed2Be with a criss-cross back. She absolutely loved it! Paul wore a two tone suit, a grey jacket and waistcoat and navy trousers.

The bridesmaids wore a grey chiffon Grecian style dress which looked lovely with the bouquets. The groomsmen wore all navy suits to compliment them.

“We had a civil ceremony in Roganstown Hotel. Our ceremony was short and simple. We wanted a relaxed ceremony with an informal approach. We had a good laugh at our ceremony and had a few short readings and blessings from family and friends who meant a lot to us. We had a wedding singer who sang beautifully, it was a really lovely ceremony!”

“Roganstown Hotel & Country Club is the perfect location for a wedding. It is set in the country side with lots of opportunities for pictures, especially in the autumn. It has a lovely classic and warm feel to it, with a beautiful staircase in the reception area. The members bar was perfect for our reception drinks. The banquet room is gorgeous with lots of low lighting to set the mood.  The food was absolutely delicious, very high standard of food and everyone was impressed by it! The staff in Roganstown are absolutely amazing and went above and beyond for us. No ask was too much and they delivered exactly what we wanted and more!”

Their wedding was beautifully captured by Paul O’Connor from Candid Dreamers.

“I fell in love with his documentary style wedding photos on his Instagram and knew I had to have him at our wedding! He did an amazing job on our wedding day, he came to both locations where we got ready and documented both of our mornings so beautifully! We barley even noticed he was there, he just did his job in the background and captured so many amazing moments throughout the ceremony, drinks reception, dinner and dancing!”

To entertain their guests, they had Barbara Galvin as their wedding singer, who also did the drinks reception music. After dinner, they hired the Hit Machine drummers as a surprise (even Paul didn’t know about it!). Everyone commented on how this got them in the mood for dancing.

They chose The Bentley Boys as their band and DJ, who did an exceptional job! “They played our first dance exactly how we wanted it and played the exact style of music we wanted too! Our dance floor was never empty!”

For wedding favours, they had a vintage style sweet stand that guests could help themselves to. They found the old kitchen dresser for free on Facebook Marketplace, decorated it to fit their theme, and filled it up with lots of sweet jars and a Ferrero Rocher stand!

Their favourite memory of the day was at dinner time!

“We just sat and thought how we couldn’t believe this was our wedding day and how amazing it had turned out.”

Here is Sarah Jane and Paul’s wedding planning advice for other couples:

“Don’t sweat the small stuff. There will always be something that goes wrong but no one else will even notice. Relax and enjoy the day and don’t rush on the day!”
