How To Hold Your Wedding Bouquet When You Walk Down The Aisle

Décor & Flowers, Planning & Advice

Imagine this: you’re walking down the aisle towards your partner. You look incredible (hair, makeup, the dress, all of it) and you manage not to trip down the aisle or start ugly crying. In this scenario, where are your wedding flowers? Yup, that’s right – you probably haven’t thought about how to hold your wedding bouquet!

Don’t get yourself down for not having thought about it, because if we’re honest, most people don’t get into this level of thinking when they plan their Big Day. But I’m here to break it down for you!

How to hold your wedding bouquet when you walk down the aisle

A common mistake that unprepared brides make is that they hold their bouquet too high. This creates a barrier between you and the rest of the world and it can be so tempting to hide behind your flowers, particularly if you’re nervous about all the attention.

Here’s what to do instead: Hold your bouquet at your belly button.

With your wrists at your hip bone and your bouquet in front of your belly, you’ve nailed it. Your arms will be a little bit bent and relaxed, looking toned and you won’t be hiding behind anything.

Hold your bouquet at an angle

You don’t want to show off the stems of your bouquets but rather, the actual flowers!

So tilt your bouquet so that it’s at a slight angle and your blooms are on full display.

Talk to your florist

When in doubt, your florist is the best person to speak with! Here are a few questions you could ask:

  • Should this bouquet be viewed from the side up and down or as a bunch, angled towards the camera?
  • Will the bouquet be heavy when it’s complete?
  • How long will the stems be? Will they be short enough that I could angle the bouquet towards the camera without getting the dress wet?

No matter what, even if you hold your wedding bouquet in front of your face for the entire ceremony, as long as you end up married, consider it a success!
