If you’ve only just begun browsing bridal and are not yet familiar with the top dogs of the industry – meet Jenny Packham. The UK indie bridal designer who in the last decade has taken the wedding and fashion world by storm, is synonymous with elegant, ethereal gowns that glide a glamorous line between contemporary sophistication and bohemian romance. Jenny Packham is not just a designer, but a style unto herself, in fact even if they don’t end up in one of her creations many women will describe themselves as a ‘Jenny Packham bride’ to convey their personality to wedding stylists when searching for ‘the one’!
Packham’s bridal collections grow in strength every year and 2017’s offering certainly continues the trend. With a distinct nod to the authentic vibes of 1960s American West Coast and the Deep South (think Janis Joplin meets Tammy Wynette) she has created a range of captivating costumes for the chic and free spirited bride. Each of these beautifully embellished gowns carry the Jenny Packham signature – whether through the choice of soft, graceful fabrics, breathtaking beading or the classic A-line silhouette which has long been favoured by the couturier.
The country feel of the collection is present in an array of flourishes and features – the spattering of sequins (some of which you’ll see have a real star quality!), the flamboyant beaded fringing and of course those bold billowing bishop sleeves; a staple of 60s fashion. The designer has also christened each of her gowns with names such as Dallas, Dolly, Nashville, Savannah, Jolene… all which conjured up thoughts of the culture and counter-culture of 1960s America.
Apache – Celadron
Apache – Ivory
We’re predicting Faith, Hilda and Montana to be a huge hit with Irish brides, who are increasingly drawn towards the more glitzy gowns that still retain a real bohemian feel. There’s also no doubt the straight-out-of-left-field green Apache gown will be appearing in an array of fine art wedding shoots from our friends in the USA. We just can’t wait to see how brides don some of these amazing creations over the coming months and years!
