As it’s Friday the 13th, a day many people deem to be unlucky, we thought we’d take a look for some of the strangest wedding traditions from around the world. Would you not get married on this date or do you think it’s all a load of rubbish? Let us know, we’d love to know what you think!

All across the world, weddings are steeped in tradition, we all know the age old ‘Something Old, Something New’ one, and many of you will adhere to it on your wedding day, but did you know these more obscure ones?…

1. Finding a spider in your wedding dress before you walk down the aisle is apparently good luck! We’ll pass, thanks.

2. Don’t ask us where it came from but having a cat eat out of your left shoe one week before the wedding is considered good luck. How random!

3. In English tradition, Wednesday is the best day to marry whilst marrying on a Monday is supposed to be for wealth. Saturday is considered the most unlucky day, funny that as it’s the clear favourite.

4. According to Hindu tradition, rain on your wedding day is considered good luck.

5. Egyptian women pinch the bride on her wedding day for good luck.

6. Moroccan women bathe in a bath of milk to purify themselves before their ceremony.

7. In the Netherlands, a pine tree is planted outside the newlyweds marital home as a symbol of fertility and good luck.

8. In Denmark, brides and grooms traditionally cross-dressed to confuse evil spirits. Not sure we’re on board with that one!

9. Tudor custom says that male wedding guests should throw shoes at the newly married couple for good luck. Okay then…

10. If you want to be the boss of your marriage, buy something ASAP after you say I Do! Crafty brides chose to purchase trinkets from their bridesmaids to get ahead in the marriage.
