Alternative Wedding Food Ideas

Inspiration

A word of warning about today’s post: although much care and love has been poured into creating it, it will make you hungry! Unfortunately, we cannot be held responsible for the snacks or meals you might consume after reading this.

Now, with that out of the way, if you fancy going down a different food path on your wedding day, and are brave enough to forgo the traditional four course sit down meal, have a look at what options are out there for you. From an Aussie BBQ to ladylike afternoon tea, we’ve covered them all.

Sit back, relax, get ready to lick your lips and enjoy!

Ditch the formal etiquette and go all out with a BBQ feast. Jam packed with sausages, burgers, mouthwatering ribs and corn-on-the-cob, what’s not to love?! Mini burgers and chips in a cone have gained major popularity in recent years for the evening buffet, but are a great fun idea for a relaxed wedding and will be much kinder on the budget than four courses. Support local traders and go to your regular butcher for extra tasty burgers.

I love the idea of a giant cold, all you can eat buffet on a delightful summer’s day. Guests can choose from cold cuts and a plethora of tasty salads, glass bottles of home-made lemonade with retro striped paper straws, mountains of freshly baked breads, ooh, sounds amazing! If there are any nifty cooks in your family why not ask them to make some chutneys especially for the day and serve with cheese? This idea could be tackled by your own family, as most things could be prepared the day before. We’d love to hear from you if you are taking on your own wedding catering – what are you planning?

Not many people can say no to a pig on a spit! Create a great atmosphere with one of these at your wedding and your guests will definitely be talking about it for at least a year. Also a great option for the day after party. Check if your venue will get on board with bringing in some outside catering. Irish company www.pigspit.ie provide a whole wedding menu.

Fancy something a little more refined? A stunning afternoon tea themed wedding meal could be the answer. Think dainty sandwiches, mini quiches, moreish cream scones and lots of delectable sweet treats.

Have your guests got a long journey between the ceremony and reception? We love this ‘pack a picnic’ idea to keep them well fed during their journey.

Finally, DO NOT for the sake of your marriage, forget to chill the beer.
