Fitness model, Sara and community rugby manager, Simon planned their intimate wedding in less than six weeks .. and we reckon they did a pretty good job! Click through to see how Tomasz Kornas Photography captured this couple’s romantic, intimate celebration at the Martello Hotel, Bray, Co. Wicklow.
The new Mr. and Mrs. Monahan first met in Diceys Nightclub in Dublin, at student night, with Drogheda native, Simon, using his cheeky charm to win over Brazillian Sara. Simon explains how the night played out:
“I was with a good friend of mine for his going away party. I was standing in the beer garden, having a drink and a chat with my friend under a heater, and it started to rain. While I was standing I noticed a girl looking in my direction. It was Sara. She approached me and asked could she take shelter from the rain beside me. I said “yes of course.” We started to talk and the attraction was immediate. As we talked we made a deal. If I could guess were Sara was from I could have a wish. If I got it wrong Sara could have a wish. Of course I got the answer wrong and Sara had her wish. Her wish was simple. I had to take her for a dance. The rest is history!”
It didn’t take long for Sara and Simon to realise they were the ones for each other. They had been discussing marriage for a long time before getting engaged via a mutual proposal on Facetime one Friday night after work. Simon reckons it was a good job their engagement wasn’t meant to be a secret:
“Although it wasn’t a surprise, it was a very exciting moment. Sara immediately broke the news to the entire population of Brazil!”
“We had a couple of DIY aspects to the wedding. Sara, her mother Fatima, her aunt Magrida and her good friend Monica made wedding favours for all family and friends at the wedding. Everything from the chocolate treat inside to the printed labels on the top were homemade. Also the blackboard love story was hand written on the day of the wedding. Each heart shaped card cut out decoration on each table was handmade.”
Like most weddings, there was a few near-misses on the day, but Sara and Simon were ready for them!
“The black board which was written by Sara’s good friend Monica had the dates all wrong. It stated that we met on the 11th November 2013. Also Sara’s brother Samuel, had a near miss with his outfit for the big day. The day before the wedding he decided to show Sara, his big sister, his suit for the day, which turned out to be a smart casual suit, which forced Sara to drag him to Dublin city centre to find a suitable suit and shoes at the last minute.”
Groom’s favourite memory:
“When my beautiful wife said ‘yes.'”
Bride’s favourite memory:
“His eyes when he saw me for the first time.”
Bride’s advice to other brides:
“Don’t take so long planning your wedding; we did it in less than six weeks. Two years or a year is way too long. Think of a budget and half it, and then half it again. We did, you can too! The most important advice of all, enjoy the day as much as you can because it will fly by.”
