Sole Time! A Guide To Buying Your Wedding Shoes

Fashion & Jewellery, Planning & Advice

Yes, we’re mostly a bunch of shoe lovers around these parts and obviously you don’t need any guidance in finding amazing shoes, but when it comes to the shoes you wear on your wedding day, you should put more thought into it rather than just choosing the pair you find that are the most unbelievably amazing and that you can’t leave behind in the shop!! So today, we’ve a few tips on how to buy your wedding shoes; what to consider, to look out for and what maybe you should give a miss.

Know whats out there:

The pair that seem perfectly acceptable for a wander up a short aisle might feel different after twelve hours teetering around in!

Platform – Platforms literally have a platform at the front meaning the heels will be higher than normal but should be wearable. If you choose a pair of five inch heels with a two inch platform, really you’re wearing something similar to a three inch heel, get the maths? Just be careful not to chose a pair that look too bulky as platforms can.

Stiletto – Stilettos are those shoes with the slinky heel and sole. They are the favourite for many brides but do come sometimes with an uncomfortable feeling. If you’re a pro there should be no problem but if stilettos are something you’ve never went for your wedding day probably isn’t the day to choose them.

Block heel – Luckily for us block heels are in! You would find it much easier to walk in a pair of four inch block heel shoes than a stiletto pair. They offer more ground coverage, won’t get stuck in grass and can be found in loads of shops covered in gold, sparkles and glitter this season!

Wedge – We all know that wedges are the easiest to walk in, right? If you are having a beach wedding wedges would be a great choice as they have the most ground coverage and will be steadiest to walk in. If you need an extra few inches, wedges will give you this as well as being pretty supportive.

Dress + shoes= happiness?

If you’ve chosen your dress before you buy your shoes make sure either your dress will still fall at the right place or have length in it to be taken down or up. You want either hem on your dress or heels the right height to get your desired length. If you’re buying your shoes first take them along to your dress fittings to make sure you get the length just right.

Learn to walk

No matter how high or low the heel may be, practise, practise, practise! There is nothing worse than seeing a gorgeous bride hobbling up the aisle because she clearly can’t walk in her shoes! You want to be like a graceful swan gliding up the aisle. The great shoe God, Manolo Blahnik once said, ‘There is nothing charming about a woman who cannot walk in her shoes.’ It also could be a good idea to try your shoes on with a full length skirt while you’re practising your walk! Just so you know how you’re going to feel on your wedding day. If you simply can’t walk in your wedding shoes round your own home, you can’t wear them on your wedding day- off to the shops with you!

Fancy flats

If heels just outright scare you, it’s perfectly okay to go with a pair of flats on your wedding day, they are cute and so many brides wear them without anyone noticing! Unless you are four foot nothing and your grooms headed for seven foot and need the extra height!

Whether you go for heels, skyscrapers or flats, just break them in! You’re wedding day is about the whole of you, not just your blisters!
