Bridal Bouquets

Of course the bride and bridesmaids will all need bouquets, but do you know what shape you are looking for? Your wedding dress will dictate what shape of wedding bouquet you should go for, with certain silhouettes suiting certain bouquet shapes. For the last few years hand tied bouquets have been clearly the most popular as their shape will match most bridal gowns. Other shapes include cascade and pageant. Stay tuned for a helpful feature on the do’s and don’ts of bridal bouquets.

Some brides choose to have their bridesmaids bouquets in a slightly smaller size than the brides, possibly choosing to use stronger coloured flowers. There are no rules saying what your bridesmaid should carry as long as they coordinate with your overall scheme.

Flower Girl Bouquet

It can be a bit much to expect your little flower girl to carry a bouquet of flowers around all day without loosing them, especially if they are very young! There are lots of other options for your pretty little helpers including single blooms- one pretty rose can look just as cute or a basket of petals to scatter up the aisle- not only will this give them a job, it will help guide them up the aisle, something which may be daunting for little ones! Of course you don’t have to give them anything floral at all to carry, you could instead give them a special teddy or rag doll as a gift to say thank you for being your flower girl, these look really cute and are less likely to be left behind somewhere!

Buttonholes

Each member of the grooms party will need a buttonhole, as well as the Father of the bride and also groom. Some couples choose a contrasting buttonhole for the groom from the rest of the grooms party. The grooms buttonhole should be made up of the accent flower in your bouquet. Make sure your groom and his grooms party all wear their buttonholes on the left hand side. If you are worried they won’t get it right, ask someone to be a buttonhole spotter! At least then you won’t look back on your wedding photos and laugh at the varying angles of the gents buttonholes.

MOB & MOG Corsage

Thankfully, long gone are the days when all Mothers of the Bride and Groom wore two piece skirt suits with a buttonhole on their lapel! Nowadays, mums like to keep up with the latest fashion and chose to wear a corsage either on their handbag or on their wrist.

Ceremony Arrangements

There are so many areas in your ceremony that can be decorated with flowers from the church doorway, entrance hall, pew ends and at the altar, you really could go all out and spend a lot of money decorating it! Popular choices for the doorway includes topiary trees, arch of flowers and even creamery cans spilling with beautiful flowers.

When you are thinking about what arrangements you are going to choose for your ceremony, ask your florist if these can be reused at your reception. For example, pew end arrangements in little jam jars would make delicate table centres. Be savvy and your flower budget can be maximised!

Thank You Bouquets

Traditionally thank you bouquets are given out to the Mother of the Bride and Groom during the speeches, but you may also want to give them to others who helped make your day that little bit special. Arrange with your florist how many you will need, so that they are at your reception ready to be delivered.
