Most of you are probably already familiar with the world renowned milliner, Philip Treacy, but did you know that it was the same Philip Treacy who designed the five star g Hotel and Spa in Galway? We took a trip to the stylish city resort to see what it has to offer for weddings, hen parties and romantic breaks.

Location-wise, The g Hotel is pretty easy to get to, located less than five minutes from Galway City centre, along the majestic coastline of Galway Bay. We travelled by car but for those who want to take a break from sitting behind the wheel, there are direct bus and train routes to Galway city centre that operate several times a day and will drop you directly at a taxi rank.

After taking in the decor of the lobby and the amazing individually styled lounges linking the lobby to the bar and restaurant, (plenty of rich colours, strong patterns and plush materials – this hotel doesn’t do subtle), we checked into our room for the night – a junior suite with an amazing bathroom (with free standing tub, TV, and double shower). I could have stayed in the room for our entire stay and been perfectly happy.

The Grand Salon is the perfect setting for a drinks reception. The amazing 300 bulb lighting feature is so eye-catching.

One of the main things about The g Hotel that’s worth getting excited about is their most luxurious event suite, the recently launched g Suite. This function room is designed so that it works well for both smaller and larger weddings. I particularly liked the fact that a wedding band can set up in the middle part of the room, to encourage mingling (and dancing!) among guests. The hotel’s wedding team, led by Rachel, were busy getting ready for a wedding showcase that weekend, so we were able to see the suite in all its glory.

If you don’t fancy a full day wedding reception, the stylish restaurant is an alternative option for an intimate wedding meal. We dined there that evening, and even just for a romantic meal for two, the menu offers superb value, with four different price ranges embodied in a Treat / Delight / Indulge / Share tiered system offering plenty of local produce showcasing Galway’s growing artisan food industry. Although, after the Bruschetta of Bluebell Falls Goats Cheese, the Char Grilled Rib Eye Steak of Irish Beef, I’m sorry to say I was too stuffed to manage dessert!

Cocktails at the G Hotel

If Galway is too far for you and your guests to travel to for a wedding, the hotel is definitely a great contender for a hen party. Not only are you located just minutes from some of the best nightlife in Ireland, but the hotel also offers some great value options, from cocktail creation demonstrations to afternoon tea. Their Cocktail Cupcakes package sparked my interest – cocktail flavoured cupcakes with a complimenting cocktail in one of the signature lounges for you and your maids – a prefect way to get your hen party off to a glamorous start for just €10 per person.

The hotel also offers specialised hen party spa packages to really let you relax. What could be more luxurious than bubbly and canapés in the spa with your closest gals?

On a final note, the management and staff at the g really added to our experience. They couldn’t have been more helpful during our stay. Galway City is renowned for its welcoming hospitality, and the atmosphere at the g encapsulates that and more.
