Olympic sprint star Derval O’ Rourke teamed up with the Barnardos Wedding Run party today to put them through their paces in preparation for the first ever Barnardos 5K Wedding Run taking place in Phoenix Park on Saturday July 20th. Barnardos is calling on the public to don their favourite ‘wedding’ fancy dress and to register now for the event of the summer at www.barnardos.ie.
Do you have a hen or stag party coming up? Or fancy a wedding reunion with your bridal party and guests? Or just looking for any excuse to get dressed up for charity? All are welcome! Brides, grooms, hens, stags, flower girls, page boys, bridesmaids, groomsmen, priests and wedding guests are all cordially invited to take the 5k challenge and help support children across Ireland.
Ruth Guy, Barnardos Director of Fundraising and Marketing, said, “The Barnardos 5K Wedding Run on July 20th is the perfect excuse to round up your friends and family and get into the wedding spirit! We’re calling on the public to support the children and families Barnardos works with by taking on this fun challenge to run 5K in fancy dress and raise funds for Barnardos.”
Olympic sprint star Derval O’Rourke spoke about the event and her own upcoming wedding to fellow Olympian Peter O’Leary, “I’m delighted to support the Barnardos Wedding Run and hope as many people as possible register on www.barnardos.ie for the event on July 20th – it will be so much fun! It’s really getting me excited for my own big day later in the year – it might even be an idea for my hen party!”
