Wedding Wednesday: How To Make Your Wedding Fun For Everyone [Episode 71]

Podcast

Think back to a wedding or event you’ve been to. What was it that made it so memorable and so much fun? I guarantee you it wasn’t the flashy or expensive items or the perfect decor. So, instead of getting caught up in the little wedding day details, THIS is how to make your wedding fun for everyone:

Episode breakdown

RELAX – let go of any stiff traditions that don’t feel like you. Keep the tone relaxed and casual, no matter how formal your wedding might be. If you are relaxed and ready for a good time, your guests will be too.

BE THOUGHTFUL – there are plenty of ways to be thoughtful: the way you welcome your guests (usually with a drink, even if it’s just lemon water), and the way you seat your guests (put them with people they know or will get along with – avoid the singles table)!

NO AWKWARD GAPS – we have a whole episode about this, which I’ll link. The key is to plan out your wedding timeline with your guests in mind, which means no awkward gaps where there’s nothing to do!

MAKE IT INTERACTIVE – we’re talking fun props, a way to get guests taking photos and laughing together, games for those who don’t like dancing, a way for guests to put in their music requests, a glitter station or a space to get fake tattoos.

SHORT SPEECHES – give each person no more than 5 minutes and you’ll already win over all your guests.

MAKE IT FUN FOR THE KIDS – get some fun kids activities (like bubbles or a colouring book pack), seat them at their very own table (but keep it close to the parents so they can see their kids).

SERVE YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD – a popcorn bar, tayto sandwich packs, donuts and pizza! Serve what you love! And if you still want a beautiful fancy main meal, you could save the casual snacks for midnight.

SURPRISE EVERYONE – find a way to surprise your guests! It could be with a jaw dropping fireworks display, a drum performance, a magician or mentalist, or an interactive ceilidh dance.

MAKE THEM LAUGH – include cute and funny puns in your wedding signs, include a comedy show in the reception entertainment or invite a caricaturist to draw cartoon like versions of your guests during pre-drinks.

YOUR DJ AND BAND – make sure you’ve hired a brilliant wedding band and DJ who know how to keep the dance floor full all night long! Kick off the dancing with your first dance, have guests standing around the dance floor and then play some bangers that will keep them there.

TRUST YOUR SUPPLIERS – sounds weird, but if you trust your suppliers to do their job well (which they will), you’ll be relaxed and your guests will have fun because of it!
