I bought my dream wedding dress recently - it's a 1930's lace gown and I'm madly in love with it. Trouble is, the hem needs some tlc - I think the previous bride stepped on it a bit, and the popper buttons need to be replaced. Also, while trying it on the other night (on my own, without my sister to help me - I know - I'm an idiot) I managed to put a small hole in the lace but it's on my hip and it gapes a bit. :-8 Does anyone know of a seamstress who could help? I'm not looking for miracles, just the best they can do. Part of the dress' charm is that it has been loved before! I do have some spare material so it's not all bad news.

Sounds like a gorgeous dress. Would the shop you bought it in have any recommendations? Otherwise, you could ask at one of the following stores:

Hi blue, I bought my dress on eBay so I can't ask there for help I'm afraid! The lady in hayworthvintage was lovely to me and said that if she could fix the dress she would but she hasn't seen it yet as I'm not based in Dublin. If it's my only option I'll bring it up there of course, but as I'm based in the south it'll be a while before I get going.

Well, I'd imagine there's nothing specialised about working with vintage gowns except that the fabric may be more delicate and require a gentle touch, so why not just ring some of the bridal stores in Cork and ask for some contacts for dressmakers in the area?
