Hi, my name is Kelly, and I am a textile artist from Waterford, specialising in bespoke, Celtic handfasting cords.
ABOUT HANDFASTING
Handfasting is the ancient Celtic ritual of binding the couples hands together to symbolise eternal love. It dates back far beyond 7000BC, but still proves to be very popular with couples today. With arms extended, the couple clasp hands and a cord, or Crios, or ribbon were wrapped and tied around their hands, sealing in the vows and commitment of the couple. This is where 'tying the knot' comes from!
WHAT ARE HANDFASTING CORDS?
A handfasting cord (also known as a handfasting rope, ribbon or handbinding cord) is a long piece of cord, ribbon or fabric that is wrapped around the couples hands to bind them together, representing their commitment to each other. All of my cords are made with careful attention to detail, and a passion to create a piece that is personal to each and every couple. If you are looking for a bespoke, unique and luxurious handfasting cord for your ceremony, visit my Etsy shop, or just get in touch:)
CUSTOMISATION
I absolutely love the chance to create a cord completely personal to the couple, so please either use the personalisation section on one of your favourite listings from my shop, or get in touch with a particular idea in mind, and let me create your dream handfasting cord!:)
ABOUT KELLY
I live with my husband Damien and our two boys Teddy and Sebastian in Waterford. For the last 10 years, Damien and I have worked in the wedding industry as ceremony musicans (find us here! Something Blue Acoustics!) But before music, I studied Art, and have my Masters in Fine Art from Goldsmiths college in London. By combining both elements of my life, I have fallen into creating handfasting cords! I adore textiles and cherish every cord I make and I feel exceptionally lucky to play a part in the couples handfasting ceremony.
We're so excited to have it in the centre of our wedding ceremony. Thank you so, so much!
