We had a fantastic time all around. Our first stop was in Riva del Garda. Do you remember that our first hotel, in Malcesine, booked up while I was trying to make a decision about something, so you re-booked us at Hotel Mirage in Riva. Hotel Mirage is clean and modern, not fancy, and it has a beautiful swimming pool. The breakfasts and dinners were included and were delicious. We took windsurfing and stand-up paddleboarding lessons and also enjoyed a guided mountain biking trip up into the hills above town (recommended by the hotel). We could easily have stayed our entire vacation at Riva, but we didn't know that beforehand so after five days we moved on to Venice. Hotel CarltonCapri is very friendly and is located down a tiny tiny walkway. In fact, it would be hard for two people to pass each other! Durning the day there is another, wider access path, but at night that one is locked. The front desk staff were very knowledgable and helped us book a concert and a gondola ride. We stayed in Venice for two nights then returned to the lakes for two nights on Lake Como. Albergo Centrale in Cernobbio was our favorite hotel of the trip. It is steeped in history and has a fantastic restaurant in the basement (not open in the summer, but a staff member took us down to see it). Their restaurant, under umbrellas on the front patio, must be one of the best in town. The food was delicious and the service was perfect. We were lucky to be in Cernobbio on Sunday when they have a market at the ferry dock. We bought fresh bread, salami and cheese, and fruit for our picnic the next day. The next night there was a fireworks display over the lake.
It was really a great trip and I want to thank you for putting up with my ignorance about traveling in Europe. You were a star getting it all together for us.
