If you’re looking to keep things simple on the wedding cake front or want a cake but aren’t fussed on several tiers, the humble one-tier wedding cake might just be for you! We’re seeing more and more of this modern wedding trend in real weddings and on Pinterest as it’s a popular choice for couples who still want that iconic cake shot but what rather something a little more subtle. These smaller cakes work really well as part of a dessert table display, taking prized position in the centre, mixed in with lots of other treats and sweets so guests can sample a bit of everything.
Of course, this is a much more economical option than a five tiered cake but that’s not to say that it can’t or won’t make a statement in its own way. Your smaller cake can have all the elements of a larger design from hand painted details to the prettiest frosting and fruit and floral accents, and these tiny cakes can come in many forms from tall naked sponge varieties to striking cakes dusted in gold. If you’re afraid your cake will look a little lost on it’s own, give it some depth by placing it on a striking vintage cake stand or dress it up with some beautiful blooms or a fun cake topper.
