best DIY wedding projects to try

1. DIY Push Pop Confetti

DIY Confetti push pop

We’re a little bit obsessed with these bright, fun confetti-filled push-pops, created by Lauren Wells Events for stylemepretty.com. This is definitely one of the more creative DIY projects we’ve seen in a while, and it looks pretty easy to do too! These individual confetti containers are perfect for so many points during the wedding day – whether it’s the couples exit from the ceremony, their entrance into the reception, or as a fun prop for a photo booth. We guarantee your guests will love them, and be very impressed with your creative skills too! See how to make these little bursts of happiness here.

2. DIY Crystal Bridal Sash

This swoon-worthy DIY project is one for the dress makers among you, but we think everyone will agree it’s a gorgeous one. If your dress feels like it needs something extra special to tie it together (or you are looking for an alternative belt to the one your dress is styled with) this fab beaded sash by One Handspun Day on greenweddingshoes is definitely worth a look. There are plenty of great stores around the country that will be happy to help you choose the perfect features for this piece – and if your successful, you might just find yourself in the bridal business when the day’s been and gone!

3. DIY Floral Spring Wedding Headband

DIY floral spring wedding crown

Floral crowns are HUGE for spring/summer weddings this year, and we don’t think they’ll be going anywhere in 2015 either! If you fancy yourself as a crafter and stylist, this gorgeous fresh flower floral wreath is the DIY project for you. This particular project on greenweddingshoes is for adults, but the process can be altered to make pretty floral crowns for your flower girls instead. GWS advises to make this the day before your wedding to make sure it’s as fresh as can be, and we’ve got to say this project is one of the trickier ones we’ve featured in our top 8, but if you have the time and patience (or a talented, trust-worthy friend or member of the family who wants to give you a super gift for your big day, wink wink) – this piece will be absolutely worth the time and effort.

4. DIY Chalk Table Numbers

It takes a very big imagination to look at a pile of bricks and think ‘that’s the perfect thing to bring my table décor together on my special day’, but that’s just what wedding craft experts Paper and Thread and Something Turquoise saw, and we love the results. If you’re looking for something unusual to add to your reception tables that not only looks great but also shows off your super DIY skills and is a great conversation starter, this unique DIY project is for you! Find out how to make them here.

5. DIY Printable Bride & Groom Wedding Signs

You know we love our wedding signs here at weddingsonline, and signs for the backs of chairs at either the ceremony or reception (or both) are one of our faves. This project may look like it took a day or two to complete, but that’s the secret – these pretty floral signs are in fact free printables by the wonderful weddingchicks.com!

6. DIY Hanging Floral Pew End

Pew ends are a great way to add some colour to your wedding ceremony, and if you fancy going the DIY route with yours, this pew end project from BridalMusings.com is one of our faves. Create a pretty, rustic feel to your ceremony décor with cute lace covered mason jars filled with flowers and foliage, and use twine to secure. To save some cash, chose fake rather than fresh flowers – if they turn out well you might even be able to make your money back by selling them on to another bride-to-be when you’re done with them! Find the ‘how to’ here.

7. DIY Hot Chocolate Wedding Favours

The perfect favour for your winter wedding, these yummy cones of cocoa will not only look great on your tables, but will be much appreciated by your guests if they fancy a sweet winter warmer in the evening! There are plenty of these DIY hot chocolate favour projects to choose from, but this one by ruffledblog.com gets our vote for being the easiest and most cost-effective of them all. Plus they look super cute, don’t you think?! Check out the instructions (plus a free printable to make your favours look super professional) here.

8. DIY Fresh Flower Wedding Ring Pillow

The ring pillow can be a nice DIY project if you don’t have an incredible amount of time on your hands but want to add something extra special to your ceremony. We love this rather inventive flower pillow by Anthomanic and Rachel May Photography, which uses reindeer moss, oasis foam, ribbon and fresh flowers to create something bright, vibrant and unique to add to one of the most important aspects of the wedding ceremony – the exchanging of the rings. Find out how to create this impossibly pretty pillow on ruffledblog.com.
