Having gotten engaged in April this year, Jamie and Anita decided to spend an evening in the city with photographers Katja and Simon to celebrate their engagement and mark the occasion with some fun snaps. The evening was split in two with a stroll through the picturesque St Stephen’s Green followed by some portraits taken by the iconic Georgian doors on Dublin’s Lower Leeson Street…
We met… We first locked eyes in Donohoe’s pub in Enniscorthy, Wexford where Jamie was having a pre-wedding drink with the groom who happens to be my cousin. Having driven down from Dublin to Enniscorthy for the wedding, I dropped into the pub to use the loo and bumped into the groom and his groomsmen. Jamie says it was love at first sight, and funnily enough the wedding photographer captured the moment we met on camera! Nearly two years later, here we are planning our wedding.
The Planning… I ordered the ring before Christmas. It wasn’t due to be ready until the New Year but arrived in earlier than expected. As we were heading on holidays on St. Stephen’s Day I couldn’t collect it until I got back but collecting the ring wasn’t the problem – finding a hiding place in the apartment proved to be difficult as I knew Anita would sniff out a diamond in no time. So I brought the ring home to Enniscorthy and my mam kept it hidden there. I wanted to take the traditional route and ask for permission from Anita’s father so I had to suss out when her mother goes to bingo leaving her dad in the house on his own. I managed to drop down to her dad, we had a cup of tea and finally I plucked up the courage to ask for his permission!
Our proposal… We booked an Easter weekend break in Farnham Estate for two nights but little did she know what I was really planning! On the second day of our weekend away I suggested that we go for a walk. After about 40 mins of walking through muddy woodlands we came to the Farnham Estate Lough where I had seen a nice clearing the day before with some seats beside the lake. Much to my dismay, when we arrived another couple were sitting in the seats so I had to improvise and encourage her to keep walking along the trail. Luckily we didn’t need to walk too much further as we found another clearing with a log that we could sit down on and enjoy the views over the lake. I got my chance to get down on one knee and thankfully she said yes!
Our Engagement Shoot… Simon and Katja of AVBart Wedding Photography are from Slovenia and specialise in destination photography due to their love of travelling the world. We were lucky enough to catch them during their trip to Dublin in April. We met at St. Stephen’s Green in the City Centre and they immediately made us feel at ease. We had a stroll around St. Stephen’s Green and took most of the photographs here. We took a few final snaps on Lower Leeson Street to capture the famous ‘Doors of Dublin’. This was a great experience and we have some snaps to mark the occasion and we have some practice of a photoshoot to help prepare us for the big day.
