How did you meet and get engaged?
We vaguely met about 25 years ago at a Christmas party then met on a night out 12 years ago and exchanged numbers. We got engaged at home shortly after the birth of our daughter in 2017.

Describe your wedding:
We didn’t have any particular theme in mind. We just wanted a relaxed, elegant style of wedding. I really struggled with deciding the colours but once I chose my dress there were two colours that worked best with it which was navy and burgundy. unfortunately, my mother really dislikes burgundy so I went with navy/greens/ivory and grey. I adore eucalyptus so we had it in abundance in the church and hotel.

Tell us about your bridal look:
I had seen my dress about a year beforehand on a bridal shop’s social media page so I travelled up the country and tried it on. I loved it instantly as I knew I wanted tulle but wanted a relaxed sweater type top but that was still glamorous and this dress ticked all the boxes for me. I then checked if I could get it closer to home and Cinderella’s Closet in Cork were just fantastic, they got the dress and corresponding veil in especially and were absolute superstars to deal with!

For my hair, I had let it grow for 2 years so it would be a decent length for an upstyle but when I had my trial I just didn’t like my hair up on me so I went and cut it back into a bob and got Azure to make a headpiece to match my dress. A very good friend of mine recommended Sarah Cummins for my make up as the bridesmaids and myself wanted a natural look and she did a great job. My mum had never had her make up done before and was terrified but loved how Sarah made her look and feel!

What did your bridesmaids wear?
My bridesmaids wore dresses by Th&Th, they’re a lovely fit and had a gorgeous train. They wore a rose gold tone shoe and had Swarovski rose gold jewellery.

What was your ceremony like?
We had our ceremony in a tiny church in the village of  Castlemartyr. Our celebrant was Fr. Frank O’Neill who has a lovely relaxed manner and also christened our kids so it made it all the more personal. We had Limerick Gospel Choir singing throughout and they were stunning, their voices, the song choices which they helped us with and the atmosphere they created! It was also quite emotional as I lost my dad 12 months previous so we lit a beautiful memorial candle for him before we started the ceremony while my brother read a poem dedicated to him.

Tell us about your wedding venue:
What can I say… Castlemartyr Resort is simply the most special place to have a wedding. The staff were so attentive and accommodating to everyone, the food was divine, the reception room is stunning with those gorgeous chandeliers and the guest bedrooms are amazing. Elaine was my wedding coordinator and she honestly made me feel so special and was so patient throughout, I will be forever grateful to her and her team for helping our day run so perfectly.

What is your favourite memory from your wedding day?
My favourite memory is reaching the top of the aisle to John and being swept up into a giant bear hug and also my firstborn son walking me there.

Have you got any advice for other couples?
Try and not get caught up in the stress and if you have a clear idea of what you want your day to look like then plan well ahead of time and don’t leave things until the last minute. Also we kept a lot of details to ourselves as we wanted our guests to be swept up in the day with us and it keeps unwelcome opinions at bay.
