“Seeing Neil as I was walking down the aisle with my father and having the beautiful voice of Karen Gould singing Jess Glyn’s My Love in the background, is a moment I’ll never forget. “
The couple: Neil & Mairead Kennedy
Length of engagement: 18 months wedding | Date: 3rd June 2016
Wedding location: Ballykisteen Hotel & Golf Club
Photographer: McMahon Studios
Our proposal… On our site where we are now almost finished building our home, Christmas morning 2014.
Our wedding theme/colours… Our theme was simple and elegant, with pink and purple pastel colours.
His suit… was a bright blue suit with raspberry tie from Esquire in Limerick City, matched with tan belt and tan Tommy Bowe shoes.
What our bridal party wore… The groomsmen wore matching suits from Esquire in Limerick City, they wore a dark purple tie which was different to the groom. The bridesmaids wore pastel pink and pastel purple lace dresses from the Bridal Emporium in Milltown Malbay.
Our ceremony… was in John the Baptist Church in Meelick, with our local priest Fr Tom Carroll.
We chose our photographer because… We loved McMahon Studios style – vibrant colours, natural but also artsy. We also felt they were a good fit for the day personality wise, fun and easy going, but very professional, they added a lovely touch to the day as well as capturing the most amazing memories. We have so many beautiful photos to treasure, and we have fantastic wedding album thanks to the McMahons.
We chose our venue because… Ballykisteen Hotel & Golf Club has a beautiful setting, an amazing room with high window and fairy light backdrop. Also the first wedding we went to together was there so it all made it a bit more special.
We chose our wedding coordinator because… Helen Leddy (Ballykisteen) made everything so easy, calm and nothing was too much trouble. She was very accommodating, gave us lots of fantastic advice. The day went off without a hitch thanks to Helen.
Our menu… Clonakilty black pudding or Duck leg confit followed by raspberry sorbet. Beef or Salmon for the main course, with a trio of desserts. The food in Ballykisteen is fantastic and one of the main reasons we chose it as our wedding location also.
Our honeymoon… we spent three weeks in South Africa driving the garden route, an amazing experience, from Table mountain views, shark diving, bungee jumping to a beautiful safari, followed by a week of rest and relaxation in Mauritius.
My piece of advice for other brides… Relax and enjoy, it really is the happiest day of your life and you are surrounded by love so drink it in and don’t sweat the small stuff.
