Christmas starts here on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th December and we believe there will be no better place to help you get in the Christmas spirit. So whether you need a boost to flagging winter spirits, or a chance to stock up on gifts with a difference, we have some fantastic ideas to make Christmas at the Castle a magical wonderland of all our favourite aspects of the holiday season and a fun day out for all the family.

This year sees Santa Claus make a welcome return to Borris House and as in previous years he is bringing with him a sack full of toys for all the Boys and Girls on his list. Your visit will begin with a visit to Mrs Claus in her kitchen to help her pack Santa’s bag for his big journey – has she forgotten anything? Then line up and hop onto Santa’s magical train and let the elves whisk you off through the forests and fields of the Borris estate with plenty of surprises along the way. On your return you will stop at Santa’s cosy cottage where the adults can enjoy a hot refreshment while the kid’s can visit Santa’s bedroom – has Santa made his bed? Afterwards you can visit Santa Claus himself, give him your Christmas List and you never know he may even have a little surprise for you. Tickets: €10.00 pp.

Our ever popular craft fair will be held in Borris House and you will be able to browse a wide range of unique Christmas gifts including some wonderful jewellery, ceramics and children’s toys. Stallholders include Emma Jane Champley Jewellerey and paintings,Carmen Sanchez Padron ~ Feltmaker, The Silk Connection, James Hickey woodturning, Jim Behan ceramics, Back on track- functional textile, Green Angel- gifts, The Leinster Printmaking Studio, Brian Coleman- Irish Wooden Pens, Blackstairs Upholstery and Caroline Murphyto name but a few. There will also be crafts for the children and delicious refreshments by the fire. Entrance: €3.00 per adult, €5.00 per couple, children go free. Proceeds in aid of the restoration of the Chapel of St Moling.

Afterwards, you can take a personalised tour of Borris House with a member of the McMorrough Kavanagh family and experience the warmth of the Christmas season in a truly old-fashioned style. Lavishly decorated for the holidays, Borris House will recall the late 19th Century traditional Christmas with elaborately decorated mantels, towering Christmas trees and pine, holly and ivy on stairs and walls.
