When today’s bride Fiona moved across the Atlantic to Boston to be with her boyfriend Ed, she knew it was a move for life! We’re so delighted to share their beautiful early summer wedding with photography by Circus Photography.
“Ed and I met when my parents moved to Boston in the 80s! Ours moms met at work in Boston – it was both of their first days in a new job and they quickly became best friends and introduced their husbands, who also became best friends. Ed and I grew up as friends, although I grew up in Dublin. We would come stay with his family on holidays as kids, visiting back and forth. He was always one of my best friends, but I also fancied him loads as a kid! Ed is three years older than me, the age gap seemed bigger when we were teens, so we didn’t pursue anything until I was 19. We didn’t start really dating until I was 21, and the rest is history,” explained Fiona.
Fiona moved to the US when she finished college and three years later Ed proposed at their favourite beach in Cape Cod.
The couple decided to marry in Dublin and set about planning their dream day which incorporated shades of raspberry, coral and blush.
“My mother is a saint! We live in Boston but the wedding was in Dublin. She did so much to make the day a reality, because planning a wedding from a different continent is really tough! She was so amazing, but I bet she is glad she only has one daughter! It felt like our whole family, church community and friends chipped into make the day special and personal,” added Fiona.
Fiona travelled home to Ireland last Christmas with the plan of finding her wedding gown;
“My flight landed at 5am and mom had me trying on dresses before noon! We found the dress of my dreams in a small boutique in the Temple Bar area. My mom spotted it first in the window, but it wasn’t until I tried it on that I knew it was the one, we both cried like eejits!” said Fiona.
Her three bridesmaids wore vibrant raspberry lace dresses from Phase Eight, whilst Ed and his grooms party wore classic black tuxedos from Dublin Formal Wear.
The wedding ceremony at Kilternan Parish Church in Dublin was very special and personal. Fiona and Ed were married by her Godfather, Pastor Sean Byrne. Her brothers, cousins and college friends played the music.
“At the risk of sounding clichéd, the day was completely perfect. It was the most fun and special day of our lives. It was the perfect representation of our relationship and our love, it was so personal. I have more than just one highlight, but one was when we said our vows. We wrote them ourselves and although they got quite emotional (I barely made it through them) they were so special and they have set the foundation for our marriage,” added Fiona.
“My highlight was during the speeches. It was special to look around the room at all of our friends and family. There is something kind of amazing to be in a room full of people you love and who love you back. Also when I thanked Fiona’s parents for her in my speech, they smiled at each other and kissed each other, that was special,” said Ed.
Fiona’s Advice
Elope! Only joking! Remember that at the end of the day, the only thing that can truly go wrong is that she doesn’t say yes! Everything else is just the icing on the cake.
