We get all excited when a couple is brave with colour and truly adds extra zing to their day! Today’s couple shows just how much extra fun, life and vibrancy can be added to your day and really help make it memorable!

Donna & Thomas' Colourful Autumn Wedding by Fergal McGrath Photography

Donna and Thomas first met 12 years ago on St. Patricks day in Bundoran. At only 16 and 17 they clearly were not ready to settle down and so parted ways before meeting again in Bundoran five years later. Since that day they have literally been inseparable!

We had been all over the world together Australia, New Zealand and New York – all the magic places a girl may dream of getting proposed to! But when Thomas took me to Belfast for the weekend for my birthday, in typical tom style he casually said to me going up the road we could take a look at rings but I shouldn’t get too excited as I mightn’t see the perfect one! I’ll always remember looking out the M1 thinking ‘oh I’ll be coming down this road again with a sparkler on my finger.’ We had a really lovely weekend together, it was such an exciting buzz and we realised after we had actually gotten engaged on February 4th it was my parents’ wedding anniversary.

The couple chose October 5th, 2012 for their special day and set about planning their day with gusto! Donna wanted to do as much herself as possible and made all the stationery, seating plan, bracelet favours, fingerprint tree, table centres, flower pots and lanterns! All her effort certainly paid off, and the beautiful rustic autum look came together so well.

They were married in the same quaint little church Donna’s parents had married in 44 years previously, this meant so much to them as Donna’s father had passed away some years previous and it felt right to stand in the same place as her parents had started their story all those years before. The ceremony had been carefully dressed to perfection by both Annette from Perfect Scent and Donna and her team of bridesmaids on the eve of the wedding.

We have such amazing memories of the whole build up to the day and the morning, it was just so relaxed. We decorated the church the night before and the banter was flying, I remember being on a complete high leaving the church that night!

We love all the little rustic touches in the church.

Advice to other couples

Make your day personal, lots of people will be quick to offer their opinions, it’s your day do it your way.

Your dress will get dirty, your hubby will stand on it, there’ll always be some guests that don’t show, there’s a good chance it may rain (pack your wellies) there’s nothing you can do about it!- LOVE THIS!

I would say invest in a good photographer. After it’s all over the pictures are all you have left (apart from your darling husband of course!). We have had so many compliments about our wedding photos, Fergal McGrath was so lovely to work with and not afraid to try new and funky things.

Apart from a suspected broken ankle three weeks before the wedding, Donna and Thomas really did get their dream day, and have made many lifelong memories to cherish.

We wanted a relaxing, fun day and thankfully everything went off so smoothly with the help of our great team, super families and friends.

The The Silver Tassie Hotel was  awash with Donna and Thomas’ extra carefully crafted details, something which didn’t go unnoticed.

My Mam thought I had gone mad with all the little details but actually said to me on the day all the effort had paid off and everything looked so stunning. I’m a stickler for the little details but it defiantly was a topic of conversation on the day.
