With two young daughters and a 15 year long relationship under their belts, our beautiful couple Nicola and Bernard celebrated their wedding day this year with a pretty family focused Big Day. We’re delighted to share their story and wedding photos by Katie Kav Photography.
“Bernard and I met through a friend 15 years ago! He’s a bit of a slow burner!! He proposed on the beach in Dunmore East in the rain in May 2016 with our then 4 year old daughter. We were bringing her for a walk and throwing stones in the water, when I turned around Bernard was on one knee and I just yelped!!” explained Nicola.
“We decided to wait two years until the wedding to give us time to save and we welcomed our second daughter in May 2017. We are very relaxed. Therefore we took it all in our stride and didn’t overthink things. We wrote a list, booked everything at least 18 months in advance and left it to the professionals to deliver. They all did a fantastic job and we didn’t have to chase anyone. We were blessed to have a few talented people who offered there services which was a saving in itself. Our neighbour Trish sang at our ceremony, Bernard’s Uncle Eamonn was our Videographer, Bernard’s godmother Noreen did our cake with her sister Breda and Bernard designed our invites,” added Nicola.
Nicola visited three local bridal boutiques before she found her beautiful off the shoulder wedding gown. “I got my dress in Enchanting Brides in Waterford City. Susan was an absolute pleasure to deal with. I didn’t want to travel too far because of alterations I wanted to stay local if possible,” she said.
“The day was amazing from start to finish. We had so much fun and everyone commented on what a happy bride I was which took me by surprise because surely if you’re going to be happy its going to be your wedding day!! Our highlight was definitely the moment the priest pronounced us as husband and wife as our 6 year old daughter was ecstatic and we will never forget her face. Pure joy, it was just absolutely adorable,” said Nicola.
Nicola’s Advice
Just relax and enjoy every minute. Don’t overthink things and if something does go wrong so be it, just enjoy the day and don’t let it pass you by without embracing every moment.
