Ivory & Gold: Classic Spring Wedding at Druids Glen Resort by Katie Kav Photography

Real Weddings

After a first date that didn’t go that well, today’s couple, Melissa and Daniel, tried again and after six months they moved in together! We’re delighted to share their beautiful Wicklow wedding with photography by the very talented Katie Kav Photography.

“Dan proposed on the beach in Hawaii whilst we were there on holiday for my 30th birthday!” explained Melissa. “We started planning our wedding with a lot of spreadsheets and by booking the church. I wanted to get married where my grandparents are buried. Once we had the church secured that drove the rest of the planning. We looked at hotels within an hour distance of the Church and I really wouldn’t recommend going further than that, you lose too much of the day. We had actually been to Druids Glen a couple months previously and joked we would get married there, little did we know we would actually book it!”

With a healthy budget, Melissa and Daniel were sure of the most important elements of the day which included the reception, music and photography. “People remember the food and music the most so it’s worth the extra money. Photography was something I was unwilling to compromise on as I love photos and I definitely wasn’t disappointed at all,” she added.

Driven by the overall look and feel of Druids Glen, Melissa went with a clean and classy colour scheme incorporating lots of gold, ivory and cream to her day, whilst her maids wore deep purple lace dresses to add depth to the day.

“For my wedding gown I looked online, in magazines and on Instagram – a lot! Then I narrowed down the dresses I really liked the look of. One designer stood out to me, Sophia Tolli, and I wanted to try on a lot of her dresses. I went to Fiona Todhunter in Tallaght as she has quite a large range. I literally tried on every style of dress and narrowed that down first. Once you have a style you like and that flatters your figure, it gets a lot easier. On my second visit, Fiona had managed to get the two samples I was desperate to try on and that was the dress. It definitely had that wow moment!” said Melissa.

“Our wedding day was amazing but we had a couple of hiccups! Two days before, we got a phone call that my husband’s niece and nephew’s passports had expired! Utter panic! A six hour drive, three hour boat ride and several pounds later they got to Dublin thank God! I have never seen such a panicked groom!” explained Melissa.

Highlights

Melissa: The church, I didn’t expect it to mean so much to me but it really did. I can’t describe that feeling of being with my dad walking into my husband. I didn’t even notice anyone else in the church but him. As soon as I saw Dan, I instantly calmed down and I completely fell in love with him all over again on our wedding day.

Daniel: Seeing my wife for the first time. As soon as I saw her, I was a complete emotional mess. She looked absolutely beautiful and I was so excited to marry her at last!
