It was after a camogie match in Quinns Pub, Drumcondra that Laura and Aaron first met. A local girl, Laura was very taken by Aaron’s Canadian charm and a surprise engagement soon took place at Henley on Thames in England, on a sunny day overlooking the river. We are delighted to share with you, their beautiful wedding by the sea, captured by Radharc Photography.
When it came to planning their wedding in Ireland both Laura and Aaron were keen to make sure both families, from different countries, were relaxed and most importantly had fun;
“We wanted our personalities to come through on the wedding day; with an Irish bride and a Canadian groom we incorporated both cultures into our day. As we were living in London at the time it was difficult not always being present so we did rely heavily on family in Ireland to ‘project manage’ the wedding from home – thankfully they were very willing,” Laura explained.
The ceremony took place in Balheary Church, Swords, with Laura wearing a one off designed wedding gown, which featured classic styling, a scooped back detail and finished off with a full length veil.
“Apart from a slight traffic jam bringing me to the church and a slightly fretting groom, the day went perfectly, we couldn’t have asked for a better day, all the planning was worth it. Everything went off as it should and we were able to get on with enjoying ourselves with our guests!” Laura said.
The couple chose the stunning location of The Grand Hotel, Malahide for their reception.
“Both of us love being by the sea and with the function room looking over the water The Grand was the perfect location. We also wanted somewhere where our Canadian guests could travel easily in and out of the city. Staff at the Grand were great; Stephen and Dermot looked after us on the day and made sure we didn’t have to worry about a thing,” added Laura.”
Highlight of the day
“As Aaron is Canadian our two families only met for the first time during the wedding celebration. It was a highlight looking at everyone getting-on and enjoying each others company. A whole new extended family was created and it was tough to say goodbye when it was all over.”
Advice for other couples
“Enjoy the whole build up and planning, it really is a special, exciting time, from dress shopping to hen/stag parties, enjoy it all. Lots of preparation is needed but it’s worth it on the day. On the day itself the Bride and Groom’s only job is to smile and enjoy yourself, if you have fun all your guests will have fun.”
