Intimate Walled Garden Wedding at Airfield Estate by Ian Hennessy

Real Weddings

We have the most beautiful and laid back wedding for you today. Wedding performer and singer, Sinead Walshe married her long term partner, Dave at their stunning outdoor wedding ceremony in the Airfield Estate in Dundrum. Their planning was as relaxed as how they got engaged and focused on sharing a very special celebration with their closest friends and family.

“Dave and I met in work when we came to be working on the same project together in Bank of Ireland. When we decided to move to Canada together in 2011, we knew it was a commitment for life,” said Sinead.

After years of talking about it, the couple chose a beautiful engagement ring together, with the help of their daughter in Applebys.

“We were always up in Airfield Estate with our daughter – she loves it up there. Dave and I love the walled garden and always said wouldn’t it be a beautiful place to have a ceremony and the old house would be wonderful if we could have the reception in there as it looks onto the garden. At the start of this year we enquired if they did weddings and they said they did, so we picked a date that worked for all concerned and once the venue was booked, it all moved from there really – we were married within 8 months,” explained Sinead.

The couple planned a simple ceremony outside in the walled garden with 50 of their closest friends and family. Sinead wore a classic strapless Suzanne Neville gown from Sharon Hoey, whilst their little daughter, Katie, stole the show in her sweet pink floral dress.

“The day could not have gone better from beginning to end! We had such fun at home with family, breaking open the bubbly, taking photos and getting ready. Dave and Katie went up ahead of me greeting everyone, I came up last with dad and my sister and mum,” added Sinead. “The ceremony was outside in the walled garden which looked stunning, with beautiful music throughout the ceremony thanks to my friend soprano Catrina Scullion-Finn who sang and played the flute and Annemarie Papin who played the concert harp – everyone knew I was so excited about the music and we were not disappointed, they were amazing! After the ceremony we had great fun chatting to everyone before Ian Hennessy, our fantastic photographer took us down the garden to get photographs. My two wonderfully talented friends Elaine and Sue with whom I play in a group called Seoid played their harps for me as background music throughout the drinks reception and it was so lovely to hear the tinkle of the harps wafting down the garden when we were getting our photos taken. I even got to play Elaine’s harp and sing a few songs as well.”

Sinead’s Highlight

“The actual ceremony was very special to me. Getting to share the experience of saying ‘I do’ to the love of my life, surrounded by my dearest friends and family meant so much. My fabulous friends soprano Catrina Scullion-Finn and concert harpist Annemarie Papin sang and played the most beautiful music for the ceremony which made it extra special. And then listening to the tinkling tones of Elaine and Sue on their harps during the drinks reception just set the whole occasion off.”

Dave’s Highlight

“To have my whole family there but especially my kids Dylan, Hannah and Katie there to be part of our very special day made it just perfect. To marry Sinead, my real other half, made it the happiest day of my life. The thing I remember most is that the whole day was really laid back and calm, I enjoyed every second with Sinead from start to finish.”

Sinead’s Advice

Enjoy the lead up to the big day, enjoy the planning, enjoying picking out songs, dresses, flowers, chatting about different options to friends and family etc. It is such a special time, you only get to do it once and treasure every moment of the day as it is all over in a flash!! So make the most of it.

Also, a tip for brides-to-be. I did my makeup myself but I started to follow and read articles from Jennifer Rock of Skin Nerd. I followed some tips of hers to make sure my skin was glowing – highly recommend any brides to start following her, she is fab!
