Aisling and Liam have recently celebrated their first anniversary so it’s a great time to have a look back at their wedding day in the Rivercourt Hotel in Kilkenny. Thanks to Katie Kav Photography for sharing their special day with us.

Aisling and Liam had friends in common and would have been out in the same company but they never had spoken before one night in the Dignity bar when they got chatting, had a laugh and walked home together.

“I knew very quickly it was for life. After a few weeks I loved the bones of him and on another hugely unromantic occasion outside a bar I told him I loved him he gave me the right answer and I just knew then that this was it!” said Aisling.

Liam planned a romantic proposal over dinner at Druids Glen Hotel during Aisling’s 30th birthday celebrations.

“We were having a fab dinner in the restaurant when Liam had to go to the toilet so off he went. He had went to get the ring which had been hiding in his jeep since St Patrick’s Day, and he was a bit puffed when he came back and I was asking him did he feel ok! When I lifted my head next which probably took a few minutes considering how delicious the food was the ring box was on the table. He just opened it and said here you go! I definitely said yes but don’t remember much more – shaking, crying, shock, excitement and the poor waitress just put her arm around me saying congratulations! The hotel were amazing and upgraded our room, done my nails and served champagne with strawberries and some nice chocolate. It was some weekend and we came home to a massive house party to celebrate, I loved every second of it,” added Aisling.

The couple decided to get married during the August bank holiday and set about finding the perfect location and priest. Although their first choice was already booked they decided on Ballybricken, an old part of Wexford with an amazingly warm atmosphere. Their own family priest Fr. Jim Kavanagh was booked, followed quickly by their reception at The Rivercourt Hotel and finally their photographer, Katie Kav.

“When I saw Katie’s pictures online I knew she was the girl for me. So with all the big bookings out of the way I just left it for a while. Our third daughter arrived in February so from March on it was all go again with invitations, mass booklets and table plans. Liam took it all his stride, he didn’t mind what we did as long as he didn’t have to wear a waistcoat or go shoe shopping. He never wore the waistcoat but we did manage a new pair of shoes for him!” said Aisling.

The couple chose a unique theme to run throughout their day; love, life and laughter.

“Simply, we wanted things to be bright, light and meaningful and actually the room in the Rivercourt is so bright I just adored it. Didn’t want a dark room with fake light just lots of sunshine (we got lots of rain) but it was bright. I decided on flowers instead of candles on the tables and the table numbers were in photo frames with quotes from a little book “Live, Laugh, Love” and the smaller vases had decorative tape with the same theme which we wrapped around them. The colour once I picked the dresses and flowers turned out to be pinkish which even surprised me as I’m not the pink girl! But I did love the dusky pink shades and so the cake ended up pink too!” said Aisling.

“Our day was amazing. It was perfect. Light hearted with lots of laughs, I just felt so in love. We had great people, great food, great music, although it did rain all day! Some people may have thought the rain to be a disaster but sure it only added to the day in the end. It forced us to the Town Hall in Kilkenny which suited the Groom and his men as they enjoyed Supermacs for a snack (full on sit down meal) and my ladies had the plastic glasses champagne and crisps to hand what more could a bride want!” added Aisling.

Aisling’s Highlight

I loved when I got to the top of the aisle, it was a feeling I honestly couldn’t describe. I stopped to kiss half the room on the way up but when I got to Liam and gave him a hug it was magic. Liam loved the first dance which he picked the music for all by himself. We were waltzing (trying in any case) and Kayla our oldest girl came over and joined us and for a few minutes it was like there was nobody else there.
