We’ve something a little different for you today; Leonora and Derek’s wedding was planned in four months, and was a truly relaxed occasion for their closest family and friends. Leo and Derek have know each other for over 15 years and have been a couple for ten of those years. With two gorgeous daughters together, they decided 2014 was the right time to naturally move things along and get married.
“We’re both a little too laid back for this whole wedding planning so we knew our wedding would be simple and highlight our loves. Our budget was small and our main concern was having a really nice meal for our closest family and friends, so most of our budget went on the reception. We got really good value for money in Darwin’s Restaurant, it’s such an intimate elegant setting and our guests had a fantastic meal and are still talking about the steaks!” Explained Leo.
Leo called in a few favours from friends to help them get the day they wanted but other than that they enjoyed a totally uncomplicated wedding day featuring lots of love, amazing food and a great nights craic at the drinks party in the Morgan Hotel. Leo wore a tea length Justin Alexander gown teamed with red lips and an off white leather jacket which gave her a stylish old Hollywood glamour look, whilst Derek was dressed in a classic tux.
Following their ceremony in St Patrick Duns Hospital Registry office the bridal party and their 50 guests made their way into Temple Bar for some original photos by Angela.
“When we went through town to take pictures with Angela we had so much fun. Angela was great throughout the whole day and made us laugh. More importantly she made us look good and captured how we felt that day. Walking through town was hilarious as everyone was congratulating us and many of them were taking their own photos. Temple Bar gave us some amazing photos along with the usual mixed bag of tourists and eccentrics. “ said Leo.
Highlight of the day
“We both had great fun getting the photos taken. Also after the meal (and a lot of alcohol) we walked with our guests to the drinks reception in the Morgan Hotel and it was so much fun.We even ended the trip with a ride on a rickshaw through Temple Bar.”
Advice for other couples
“Don’t try and impress people. Personal touches and doing things within your means keep stress levels down. We were able to enjoy the day a lot more because we stayed true to ourselves.”
