Odessa Dublin Wedding Party: Double Continent Wedding

Married in Oz, party in Dub! Todays couple got married on the opposite side of the world from where they had their reception!

When I caught my first glimpse of todays wedding, I was dazzled and intrigued! The couple, JoAnn and Russell were married in Australia, on the beach where Home & Away is filmed no less, and chose to party into the small hours in the centre of Dublin with a slick reception and party at Odessa.

Thanks to Michelle O’Sullivan Photography for sharing this little touch of glamour with us this morning!

Wexford lady, JoAnn moved to Sydney in March 2009. What was supposed to be a year, rolled on to two… and then she met Russell, an Australian from Victoria.

“Our eyes literally locked across a crowded room on Australia Day, January 26th, 2011. Well, I had a seat next to me and Russell was keen to sit on it! A whirlwind romance ensued and Russell ended joining me back in Ireland that May to meet friends and family. The following January, we went on a nine day camping and hiking adventure up Mt Kilimanjaro and Russell decided this Irish woman was the one for him! Two months later on a very dreary St Patricks Day, Russell popped the question at Avoca Beach, New South Wales. Soon after, our plans for a Christmas 2012 wedding were postponed due to the news that we were expecting a baby!”

The Australian bit…

The wedding was rescheduled to take place on 4th April, 2013 at Palm Beach, Sydney. The ceremony was held in Governor Philip Park, which overlooks the beach and the reception was held at Dunes Restaurant, across the road. Although the weather hadn’t been too kind to the couple, on the day sun shone high in the sky!

“Unfortunately my two brothers, who live in Ireland weren’t able to make it – or so I thought!  On the Monday night before the wedding there was a knock at the door and wouldn’t you know, there was my brother Eamonn! Then, the night before the wedding we met everyone for a nightcap and low and behold, there was my other brother James! I was speechless, and I knew my wedding was now complete! After a wonderful relaxing morning, I donned the dress of my dreams and sashayed across the grass to Russell. I was nervous. In fact ,I was so nervous that I was laughing and giggling, very unlike me, and I couldn’t stop holding or touching him. It was magical .. and as I have written this, I have smiled all the way through!”

 The Irish bit…

“Well you just got to have an Irish Party! With the exception of one friend (my fabulous bridesmaid Fidelma), none of my other friends could make it down. I really missed them all on the day and it was very important to me that we celebrated with them on the day. Thankfully Russell had the pleasure of his Mother and Aunt joining us in Ireland and a plethora of other friends that he has made over the years through working throughout Europe, Dubai etc., which brought a real multi-cultural aspect to the party.

Russell and I started in the fabulous Westbury, where we got ready and then wandered over to Keoghs for a sneaky glass of Guinness before the reception. After a fun meander down Grafton St, we arrived to Odessa to a room brimming with love and high energy and so the event began. It was fantastic!”
