It’s not often we have a groom dressed in his military finery, but today we have just that. Claire and Danny were married in September 2013 at a relaxed, fuss free wedding day at Roganstown Golf & Country Club, Swords, over ten years after first meeting. Big thanks to Andre Corvin for the quirky set of wedding photos.
Claire and Danny first met during the 2002 World Cup when Ireland were playing Cameroon. They were in the same pub, got chatting and quickly became friends, although it took a year for their friendship to turn to romance.
Danny chose to pop the question on New Year’s Eve at midnight, well, five past – his watch was five minutes slow!
“We were in the local pub and at midnight – almost, five minutes late! – Danny took me aside and pulled out a ring from his pocket. To say I was shocked would be an understatement, the first words out of my mouth aren’t really repeatable, but of course I said yes. Everyone in our company were nervous because they were all in on it, so relief came when we arrived back at the table!” explained Claire.
The couple took wedding planning in their stride with Danny heading back abroad to work. Danny suggested Roganstown as a possible venue but as Claire worked there she hadn’t really considered it.
“I saw the club everyday, but the more we talked about it we decided to book it and it was the best decision that we could have made. Cassandra, our wedding planner was amazing – she went beyond the call of duty, all the staff did, I couldn’t have asked for better!” added Claire.
“Our photographer, Andre Corvin had done weddings before in Roganstown so we contacted him and from the very beginning we got on. He was relaxed and easy going, exactly what we wanted and on the day – we had a great laugh getting our photos taken. After that everything else just fell into place, we tried not to get too stressed about it or let it take over.”
“On the morning of the wedding Danny’s mum checked herself out of hospital! She had been in with pneumonia so we were blessed that she was there. I had a stain on my dress even before I left the house, but other than that the day was absolutely perfect.” added Claire.
“If I could rewind and do it all again I would – and this is coming from someone who wasn’t big into weddings! The morning of the wedding was emotional as my mam is passed away, but once I had my cry over with I felt relaxed and was really looking forward to seeing Danny at the altar. My uncle Pat married us and that was extra special as his first ever wedding was my mam and dad’s. The sun shone, we laughed, we cried, we ate, we drank and danced the night away with our closest family and friends – exactly what we wanted!”
Andre managed to capture some beautifully posed images, as well as Claire and Danny’s fun side. We love a couple who can let their hair down and have a little fun with the camera.
