Q: I used an OPK, my timing was perfect, why didn't I get pregnant? A: It often takes a number of perfectly timed cycles before pregnancy is achieved. The chances of getting pregnant each cycle varies a bit with age. If you are 20-25, your chance per cycle are about 25%. From there they begin to fall off. At 25-30 your chances are about 20%. At 30-35 they are about 15%. After 35 they may be about 10% per ovulatory cycle, and the chances continue the downward trend. This means that the average woman under 30 will get pregnant within 6 cycles. If you don't succeed after a year, it is a good idea to consult a fertility specialist. Women in their early 30s get pregnant on average by the end of 9 cycles. Mid-30s would be a year. If you are over 35, you should consult a fertility specialist if you have not achieved pregnancy within 6 months. Why 6 months when it can take a year? Because your chances of conception are lower and miscarriage rates are higher -- it is better not to waste time.

I don't go too much by statistics anymore, they were all against us, and look where I am, I'm 42 on Sunday, both of us smoked and drank, (I've given up obviously) so 'statistically' we shouldn't have had a hope in hell.

I hope I'm not coming across as a smarmy cow here tho, that's NOT my intention at all... what I'm trying to say is if it could happen to me - the rest of ye have EVERY chance in the world girls. So don't give up hope, but what I would say to ye also is not to stress about it too much, try to carry on a 'normal' life, I honestly don't think it makes any difference what ye eat/don't eat and stuff during the 2WW for example... let nature take it's course. Right -- I'll shut up now

Definitely agree with you Tigletts. Statistics don't help you get pregnant but stressing about it can prevent it.

Honestly don’t think your been smarmy cow at all….a lucky cow maybe !!! But that’s it… I am a firm believer in “what’s for you won’t pass you by” ALTHOUGH my arms are aching at the minute for my OWN baby, so I say I won’t stress but I do but it will happen I know God is good!

I agree with Tigletts and don't forget not very long ago our Irish mammies were having very large families and were still having babies well into their 40s and remember they didn't have access to the fabulous range of fruit and vegs that we have nowadays.

I dont believe in satistics either got pregnant first time around while still on the pill, had missed just two days. Second time it took 2 years to get pregnant !!!
