Say hello to Karen and Eric, who tied the knot in a magical Disney themed wedding. They incorporated as much Disney inspiration into every aspect of their Big Day as they possibly could.
Couple: Karen & Eric Deehan
Engagement length: 6 years, 17 years together
Wedding date: 2022-07-29
Wedding location: Radisson Blu Hotel Athlone
Photographer: Ian Hennessy Photography
Karen and Eric met through Karen’s cousin and Eric’s best friend, Brian. They were just kids when they met at Karen’s grandparent’s house and as they got older they became friends.
Their engagement story is a romantic, Christmas story, best told from Karen’s perspective:
“We planned a group night away to Galway for the Christmas Markets, so we decided to head down early and go ice-skating first. We were having such a laugh but I didn’t realise everyone was in on what Eric was planning. Then we went back to our hotel to get ready to hit G town, planning to meet more friends in Eyre Sq. The group decided to get a photo in the middle of the Christmas markets. I went to turn around and Eric was down on one knee. It couldn’t have been anymore perfect. All our friends caught the moment and it’s something we’ll treasure forever.”
They planned a magical Disney themed wedding! They incorporated Disney into the invitations, mass booklets, songs, wedding shoes, cake topper and pretty much anything else they could! Karen had a red rose made, just like the one in Beauty and the Beast, the table plan was Disney themed, and every table was named after a Disney movie.
Karen chose a beautiful 3 quarter length, off the shoulder, wedding dress. She paired her dress with a gorgeous head piece and green shoes with a diamond on top.
Eric wore a cream 3 piece suit with burgundy shoes.
The bridesmaids wore forest green dresses and the groomsmen wore navy blue suits to match Eric.
They describe their ceremony as “just beautiful”. It was exactly what they wanted! They had their amazing friends, family and their children with them and they couldn’t have asked for more.
They celebrated their marriage at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Athlone. It was their dream wedding venue and they say the staff went above and beyond for them. The ballroom was decorated to the finest detail, the food service was impeccable and the bridal suit was stunning.
Their wedding was beautifully captured by Ian Hennessy. Karen remembers telling Ian that they are a laidback couple and they trust him.
“All I can say about our photos is WOW. He was just brilliant, he made us both feel so relaxed from the moment he arrived at the house. He really just captured such beautiful memories ,we will really treasure them forever. I cannot thank Ian enough, honestly his work is just endless talent.”
To entertain their guests, they arranged a two-piece band, New Light Duo. They wanted something upbeat to get the crowd going. Then during the dinner reception they were entertained by Ukebox. The final entertainers of the night were BitznPieces band and disco.
Karen has so many lovely memories of the day!
“How do you pick one? I just can’t! Getting to dress my baby girl the morning of my wedding. Walking to the church with my daddy was very special. Seeing my two little boys waiting to see me and their little faces that I was finally getting the same name as them. Seeing Eric at the top the church. In the car on the way to our venue just talking about our mornings, it was so surreal. Our first dance, looking over at our 3 beautiful kids watching us. It was all just magical.”
They’ve shared some perfect wedding day advice for other couples:
“Just don’t stress. Take it all in, enjoy it because it just goes way too fast.”
