Five Tips For Choosing Your Perfect Florist

Planning & Advice

Some parts of wedding planning are harder than others, take choosing your wedding cake flavours, oh so easy and fun to boot! For many couples flowers can prove the one stumbling block, but today we are here to let you in on a simple little secret; choose the perfect florist for you and all your floristry woes will be gone! With so many florists right across the country, where to start and who to choose? An excellent place to begin is in our Suppliers section, were we have a very talented bunch on display. Next on the list take our five easy tips and go get your florist arranged!

1. What do you require, a florist or a floral designer?

You might not know it but there are different floral arrangers out there. A florist will generally create and arrange the flowers you want, that’s exactly what they do. A floral designer on the other hand is just that, a designer who uses the medium of flowers to create their art. Of course, a florist is a professional and will create beautiful designs for you but a floral designer will create an overall scheme and tone for your day through their designs. It goes without saying that a floral designer will be the pricier person to pay!

2. Ask around and keep an eye online…

Chances are if you’re planning your big day, many of your friends are, or have recently, too. Asking family and friends for recommendations is a great way of getting reliable results, but don’t forget to also keep an eye out online. For many brides all it takes is the sight of one wedding bouquet in our real wedding features for them to know exactly who they are going to go to!

3. Don’t settle until you get that spark!

You probably didn’t choose your fiancé in five minutes and without a lot of consideration and the same goes for your florist! It’s important that you ‘get’ them and they ‘get’ you! Granted you’re not expected to become their best friend after the wedding, but working with someone who really understands what you want will make the result that much better, and most likely, easier to achieve. At your initial consultation you will know for sure if they are excited about your wedding and the scheme you want to design or if you’re just another bride to get through! Trust us, the latter will not make you excited!!

4. Can they work with your budget?

Budget can be a decided factor in the final florist you choose. Early on in your relationship with potential florists a quick conversation about what you would like and the budget you have will soon let you know if you can afford them or not!

5. Create a mood board…

With your decision made it’s time to get down to business! Of course Pinterest all the way here but for some brides there’s nothing like having something physical in their hands to explain and display their wedding vision to their florist. Don’t stick to just the flowers you love, include dress ideas, paint colours, fabric samples, basically anything that you love that will help your florist get to know you and your wedding style.

We hope these tips help in your quest to find the perfect florist!
