Today we have a real treat for you in the sugar form. Yes, we’re taking a look at some gorgeous dessert ideas for you winter brides and grooms. Winter is definitely a time for indulging (oh tin of Roses, we do look forward to you!) and that should definitely apply to any winter dessert menu (it’s cold – you deserve it!). Whether you’re after something comforting, festive or traditional… take a peek below for some inspiration (the ‘get me back in to this party dress’ diet may well be banished when you see this lot).

Pretty Pies

There’s something so homely and comforting about warm pies served with lashings of whipped cream. And the great thing about this style of dessert is you can get family and friends to pitch in and give you a hand if you want to create a dessert table on the cheap.  If you’re looking to get fancy, we stumbled upon some oh-so-pretty crust ideas on Martha Stewart which will add the wow factor, or if you’re a dab hand with your pastry, you can always garnish the top with cute cut-out letters for added romance.

Think: Apple pie, mixed berry crumble, lemon meringue pie, tartlets with fresh fruit, caramel or chocolate pie, banoffee pie, baked custard tart, pecan pie, pear and almond tart, mini fruit pies, pastry pie pops,  rhubarb (cherry, blackberrys or any fruit you fancy) tart, stewed apple sides, the list is endless…

Winter Warmers

When it’s cold outside we crave a little sliver of warmth and sweet treats tick that box nicely! Crêpes are a real cold weather treat (we love the idea of a crêpe bar) or another comforting option is a warm crème brûlée – pop them in teacups to really make things cosy.

Think: Crème brûlée, decadent chocolate mousse, warm chocolate brownie, chocolate fondant, soufflés, warm spiced poached pears, carrot cake, crêpes with an assortment of fillings, sides of custard, cinnamon infused cream

Winter Snowscape

Winter is the perfect time to play about with your dessert theme! If you decide to latch on to a gorgeous white or pastel colour scheme as inspiration, you can incorporate some really whimsy, pretty touches to your desserts or dessert table – just think snowscape and soft shimmering shades (silver, icy blue, lilac…)

Think: Meringue drops/kisses, snowflake shaped sugar cookies, cupcakes with pretty peaked icing, mini iced donuts, white macarons, coconut inspired treats, Eton mess with winter fruits, baked Alaska, ice-cream shots in rimmed glasses, marshmallow sides, snow inspired frosting

Full on Festive

If you’re having a Christmas wedding, incorporating some little touches like mince pies, gingerbread men and ginger houses or mini Christmas pudds is one way to bring some festive fun to your reception! People can never get enough of these yummy seasonal style treats but if you don’t want to go all out with this more traditional style of dessert, you could have a selection as nibbles for later on.

Think: Mince pies, mini Christmas puddings, gingerbread men, gingerbread houses, trifles, strudels, mini Yule logs, pavlova, lashings of brandy butter

Party On

If you love party season and all the festivities and glamour that comes with it, you may want to add a bit of glitz to your celebration.  And your dessert table is a great way to incorporate some sparkle! This option may be on the chilly side as the majority of the dessert options tend to be served cold but the pretty designs and wide selection of treats to taste will compensate for that nicely. Serve with lots of warm drinks!

Think: Lots of glitz! A dusting of glittery sparkles on everything from cupcakes, macarons and cake pops to cakes with metallic finishes, desserts served with pretty sparkly rims and little silver baubles adorning absolutely everything
