We met… In the summer of 2006, we have a bunch of mutual friends. One night we all went for dinner together. We both clicked the minute we met. Joe asked me on a date and the rest is history!

Our proposal... We went to New York in 2013. It was Christmas time and snowing – the perfect setting to propose! Joe organised a meal on our last night in a gorgeous restaurant and before I knew it, he was on one knee telling me how much he loved me and how he wanted to spend his life with me. We both cried with tears of happiness. We called everyone at home to wake them up and share our good news.

The dress…  I bought the dress in O’Briens Bridal Couture in Rathnew village. It is designed by David Tutera for Mon Cheri. Tanya who is the owner and her daughter were so friendly and helpful from day one. They were so accommodating in every way. Tanya did all the tailoring onsite which was really handy.

The suit… Joe’s suit was by Lambretta and was bought in Protocol for Men in Dawson Street. Billy looked after us in there, top guy! He picked the suits for the both Dad’s, groomsmen and Ewan who was our fantastic ring bearer.

Our ceremony… We had a church ceremony in Rathfeigh parish which is just down the road from our wedding venue so it was the perfect location! As my dad gave me away, my brother sang “I Will” by the Beatles, it was really emotional. Joanna Charles was our church singer, she has an incredible voice. As Joe and I signed the register, Joe’s sister sang “Make You Feel My Love” by Adele. We danced out of the church to “My Girl” by the Temptations. It was such a euphoric feeling!

My hair and make up… Carolann Moylan from Black Amber Rathfarnham did my hair. My make-up was by Louise McMahon of Powder & Paint Malahide. I was really happy with them both. They did an amazing job for us all. Carolanne is well-known for doing the perfect curly blow-dry so I knew she would be perfect for the look I was going for. Louise is such a lovely girl; she also got married in Ballymagarvey so we had lots to talk about. I wanted as natural as possible when it came to the make-up but wanted to enhance my eyes as much as possible. Louise listened to everything I said and I was thrilled with the result.

We chose our venue because… Joe and I didn’t even have to ask one another did we like the venue. We both knew straight away that it was perfect for us. The ambiance of Ballymagarvey Village is just so special. Everything is just immaculate. It is so tastefully designed and carefully thought out. We really could not fault it, the food; the attention to detail, everything was perfect.

What our bridal party wore… Our gorgeous bridesmaids wore Dessy dresses (coastal) which I got in Wedding World in Fairview. Our beautiful flower girls, Aoibhin and Cara were in Paul Costello dresses from Dunnes.

Our menu… Starters: Goats Cheese Tartlets (a crowd-pleaser) following by a Rhubarb and Lime Sorbet; Mains: Lamb/Seabass; Dessert: Assiette of Desserts – Banoffi, Chocolate Brownie, Raspberry Sorbet. In the evening we had mini sliders and mini hot-dogs! Oh and some wedding cake!

We chose our photographer because… The quality of our photographer was a real priority for us when planning the wedding. These are pictures to cherish forever, they had to be right. After hours of researching many photographers online, we thought The Fennells definitely looked the most impressive. I got in contact with Mark. Joe and I met himself and Fiona the following week. The minute we met them both, we knew they were perfect for us. Their whole style is natural and unobtrusive – which we loved. We didn’t want our photos to be too staged looking. They captured amazing moments without anyone noticing. We and all our guests had such good fun with Mark and Fiona throughout the day. One of our favourite moments was Mark sitting on the back seat of a Ferrari while Joe roared down the N2. He got some thrilling pictures – it was so much fun!

Our honeymoon…  We did the west coast of America. It was AMAZING. We flew into San Fran and did all the touristy things there, then over to Napa Valley which was one of the most stunning places we have ever been. After Napa we drove to Santa Barbara for a couple of nights then on to LA and finished up in Vegas. It was the holiday of a lifetime. Cost us a fortune but it was worth every penny! We have some amazing memories.

My piece of advice for other brides…  My advice to all brides out there would be to not be too fussy about every little detail. I was, and half of the things I stressed out about went unnoticed. Be fussy about the main things i.e. venue, photographer, dress, hair and make-up etc… Also to try live in the moment, the day goes so fast, you want to try and remember as much as possible.
