We all know over exposure to the sun is bad for our health, so the safest option is to fake it, and thankfully the choice of self tanners on the market these days are a million times improved from ten years ago!

Origins: With a scent of peppermint and orange, The Great Pretender glides on like a dream and develops and dries quickly. With one application it leaves a shimmery glow which can easily be darkened with another layer. Available from Origins.
He-Shi: This is an old favourite of many, but has recently been relaunched by the founders to highlight the prevelance of anti-aging and moisturising properties He-Shi offers. The moisture lock technology ensures your skin is kept hydrated, meaning the tan lasts for longer. Available from He-Shi.
Xen-Tan: Luminous Gold Gel is the first self-tan gel which glides on leaving an instant golden sheen and three hours later magically develops into a rich, golden colour. This newbie to the market already has a cult celeb following in both the US and Europe. Available from Xen Tan.
St Tropez: The Grandaddy of fake tanning, St Tropez still has a loyal following and their Naturals range is ideal for sensitive skin without compromising on the excellent quality. The milk is lightweight and easily absorbed and develops into a beautiful natural glow. Available from St Tropez.
Vita Liberata: I was very excited to try this tan because I had heard so much about it and it didn’t disappoint! This is the perfect tan for your honeymoon because with a little effort it really does stay on for up to three weeks! Clinique: Face Bronzing Gel Tint is another old favourite that works so well. You can wear it alone for a soft glow or mix with your foundation for a heavier coverage. Once you are finished simply wash you face like you normally do and move on! Available from Clinique.
