Meet Caroline and Cian, a newlywed couple who just tied the knot at The Station House Hotel. We love their minimalist wedding theme, pops of wild berry colour and how they wove their love for music throughout each part of the day.
Caroline and Cian met on a night out on St Patrick’s Day in Dublin in 2013! It was a complete chance meeting, because Caroline is from Monaghan and Cian from Limerick, both working in Dublin. Their proposal was simple, romantic and very ‘them’. In January 2021, Cian proposed at home and went to a lot of effort to make it special with candles and flowers.
Their wedding was minimalist in theme, with a pop of Wild Berry colour in the bridesmaid’s dress and flowers. Caroline and Cian are both very into music, so it was important to them to incorporate this into their day. They mixed Irish traditions (like walking out to the Mario Waltz) and music heroes, like Lou Reed, Bob Dylan and David Bowie featured throughout the day. They also had a record player guest book to add to the theme!
Caroline’s dress was simple and classic, purchased in MK Bridal in Navan by a Ukrainian designer, Ria Tener. She added a touch of subtle glam with a diamanté Trimmed veil (also purchased in MK Bridal) and wore a bespoke crown made by Sarah Deering. Shoes were the ‘Carrie’ by SJP. Cian wore a navy suit and cream tie from McKenna Man, paired with brown shoes from Remus.
They had one bridesmaid (Caroline’s sister, Michelle) and one groomsmen (Cian’s brother, Cillian). Michelle’s dress was a wild berry coloured dress with a beautiful cowl back. She wore a bespoke hair piece in the same colour, by Sarah Deering. Cillian wore a navy suit with a silver tie. The two flower girls were their nieces, Maisie and Eimear, who wore dresses, shoes and cardigans from Next, with hair clips made by Sarah Deering.
They describe their wedding ceremony as “intimate and beautiful”. Their celebrant, Fr Michael Cahill made the day very special with his beautiful words. And the stunning music was provided by Emily O’Dwyer.
They picked The Station House Hotel because it held sentimental value! Cian grew up in a railway house and his grandfather and great grandfather worked on the rail line, so the venue was the perfect choice.
Here’s what Caroline says about it: “When we met with the team and visited The Station House, we knew we didn’t need to look at any other venues
as we were blown away. The venue itself is surrounded by beautiful grounds, has a lovely cosy welcoming vibe and has been recently renovated. Our guests were equally blown away and have all been raving about it. The team at The Station House couldn’t have done enough and played a huge part in making the day so special.”
They describe their photographer, Renata Dapsyte was “Amazing from start to finish”. They loved her attention to detail and how organised she was on the day, photographing each moment perfectly.
“We are blown away by our photos, especially the photos captured at Bective Abbey which is very close to our venue. They are absolutely beautiful and we are delighted with them. Renata captured everything so perfectly and we are so happy to have these beautiful memories.”
For entertainment, they had Emily O’Dwyer at the drinks reception and their band, Electric Circus kept everyone on the dance floor. They even allowed Cian and his friends, Shane and Peter to play a song on the night, reuniting their old band!
It was hard for them to choose just one favourite memory from the day, but here’s what Caroline said: “Being surrounded by our family and friends and having our wedding without a covid curfew was just magic. We had a moment at the meal where we looked around and just took it all in which was special, but the day was like a blink and was over before we knew it!”
We love seeing wedding planning advice from newlyweds, and here’s what Caroline and Cian had to say: “Try not to stress. It can be overwhelming, but on the day you are in such a bubble the small things don’t matter. Take some time on the day and moments together to soak it all in.”
